Brushing The Dust Off

Oh hi. Sorry, I was testing the echo on this thing, because…well this blog has been empty for quite awhile. Ha…ha. Oops? Well, it’s been around a year since I started this blog as justtheworkingtitle, and it’s been around a year since I’ve put anything of importance on this blog. In hindsight, I figure that trying to run a blog when I was living in New York City for a summer was a bad idea. I get distracted way too easily, and New York City is the place where I’ve always imagined that I would live and love, so too many things were going on with me that summer, so things like this blog fell into the storm drain of my mind.

But here we are, a new summer with new experiences under my belt. I was considering the fact that I’m graduating college next year (which is scary), and what I wanted to do with my life (which is even scarier). That’s where this blog comes in. The field I want to find myself in post graduation – publishing – has a pretty big social media presence. You can write a book just fine, but social media can make or break the success of the book. So, I figured I should put this tiny piece of the internet to use.

When I started this blog a year ago I had a similar idea, but no plan of action. I created this page and thought “This will be a blog where I just talk about books!” Fine, that’s fine. But where do I start? That was one of the problems I ran into. I had too many ideas and no idea where to start. This time I’ve got a game plan. As I enter my senior year of college I’m going to be reading and writing a lot more than I have before, and my ventures in both those subjects will be documented here among other thoughts I have that I feel need to be put on the internet. Long story short, my blog is up and running again and I’m serious about it this time. Seriously. So let’s do this, shall we?

In my attempts to be social media savvy, I’ve also realized something that’s been called “bookstagram”, and the title kind of speaks for itself. Bookstagram is a corner of Instagram dedicated to books. So, on top of revamping this blog, I’ve also set up a “bookstagram” account on Instagram. You can follow me on there at paperbackpalaces, and most of those photos will make an appearance on here as well.

The inaugural post on there is a photo of my summer To Be Read list for 2016, which is below:

In a bit more detail, the books above are:

  1. Thanks for the Trouble by Tommy Wallach
(Which I’ve actually finished a few days ago, that review will be written soon)
  2. Some Kind of Happiness by Claire Legrand
  3. The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
  4. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
  5. Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley
  6. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Quote of the Day

“There’s a million things I haven’t done, but just you wait.” – Lin Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
